Protection
Certainly the crowd pleaser of IPO Dogsport, protection or character work requires the dog to show courage under adversity. It must have a reliable temperament and an extremely high level of obedience. It must search for the helper in up to 6 blinds, before performing a number of exercises including the hold and bark, hinder the escape and the courage test. It must have a full grip on the helper's sleeve but must also 'out' immediately when asked by its handler.
The dog must have good nerves and instinctual drives in prey and fight. It must be willing and able, understand what is required of it and capable of listening to its handler despite its high drive and desire for the sleeve.
Please be aware that an IPO dog is a sport dog and NOT a personal protection dog. Our dogs are safe and are non-aggressive.
