Obedience
Obedience is at the core of IPO Dogsport. Without it, the dog cannot possibly succeed. However, the dog must be happy in its work and be a willing participant. It should find the training joyful and work in partnership with its handler.
Obedience exercises in IPO include heeling, the long down, dumbell retrieve, sit from a walk, stand and down from a run, hurdle and A-frame exercises and send away.
Most trainers use the German commands to execute these moves. Unlike other types of dog obedience, IPO does not use hand commands but relies on voice commands only.
